The Aurora-Newmarket Family Health Team is working closely with the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care (MOHLTC) to ensure cancer screening is up to date.
The goal of our Cancer Prevention Screening Program is to reduce the number of cancer diagnoses. In order to do this we have to make sure your cancer screening is up to date.
This includes screening for breast, cervical and colorectal cancers.
If your records indicate that you are due for your preventive screening, then you will receive a letter in the mail indicating what your needs are, and what the next steps are to bring you up to date.
If you are here for a routine visit and would like us to check your records, please let us know.
Current Guidelines:
Breast: Routine screening mammograms to be done between the ages of 50 to 74.
Cervical: Routine cervical screening (Pap) is recommended every 3 years for all women between the ages of 21 to 69 who are, or who have ever been, sexually active.
Colorectal: Routine fecal immunochemical test (FIT) is recommended for both men and women starting at the age of 50, with no family history of colon cancer and do not meet any high risk criteria.
