Dr. Dawson:

  • Periodic Health Review

What is a Periodic Health Review?

Annual physicals are no longer recommended. A Periodic Health Review (PHR) is a periodic (not necessarily yearly) check-in with your Health Care Provider with a focus on preventative health.

During your PHR, your Health Care Provider will address age-appropriate screening tests. This may include cancer screening tests, necessary blood work and other routine investigations.

They may also review recommended immunizations and follow-up on relevant medical concerns that require ongoing surveillance – for example: chronic conditions (i.e., diabetes, high blood pressure, thyroid disorders, mental health), use of chronic medications, certain lifestyle factors (smoking, substance use).

If you want to know how often to book a PHR, please discuss this with your Health Care Provider at your next appointment. They will be able to suggest a tailored approach that is custom-fit for you.
